Preliminary Phytochemical Screening of Methanol Extract of Indigofera trita Linn.

Ramamurthy V and Sathiyadevi M

The aim of the study to phytochemical screening was carried out. The traditional medicine involves the use of different plant extracts or the bioactive constituents, qualitative phytochemical analysis of these plants contirm the presence of various phytochemicals like alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, caponins, proteins, gums and mucilage, phytosterols. The result suggest that the phytochemical properties for curing various ailments and possess potential antioxidant and reads to the isolation of new and novel compounds.

Demonstration of Muscle Fibre Types Using Masson Trichrome Stain from Deltoideus Muscles of One-humped Camel (Camelus Dromedarius)

Hena SA, Sonfada ML, Shehu SA, Jibir M, Bello A and Wiam IM

This study involved the use of 25 male camels (Camelus dromedarius) each within the ages of 6 months, 1 year, 3 years, 5 years and 7 years, which were purchased from Sokoto Municipal Modern abattoir. 1 cm2 of each deltoideus muscle sample was taken from the middle part of the muscle belly and fixed in Bouin’s solution for histological preparation using Masson trichrome according to standard procedure; the obtained slides were viewed using a miscroscope using different magnifications. The Masson trichrome stain revealed some collagen connective tissue fibres, and varying proportions and distribution patterns of muscle fibre types I, IIA and IIB. This study could help in advancing the course of knowledge in this study field and as well guide in clinical practice more especially during evaluation of muscular procedures and wound healing.

Historical Hints on the Dormant Cancer Cell

Wilson Onuigbo IB

A topical issue is the “dormant” cancer cell. On December 14, 1953, a massive lecture was delivered on it without a historical example. It is well, therefore, to cast the mind as far back as March 7, 1874, when it had cropped up. Propitiously, The Pathological Society of London event was opened by Campbell de Morgan, while Sir William Jenner was in the Chair. Both of these two events are such that light should be beamed on them in the literature.

Decorin in Orbital Fibroblasts as a Possible Target in the Pathogenesis of Graves' Ophthalmopathy

Heinig L, Manthe K and Oelkrug C

Background: The initiation of Graves’ ophthalmopathy (GO), an orbital manifestation of Graves’ disease (GD), still remains unclear. Whether thyroid stimulating hormone receptor (TSHr) plays a pivotal role is still debatable. In context, fibroblast-derived proteins are currently under intense consideration.

Results: Current study was designed to evaluate whether decorin, a 38 kDa proteoglycan, could be a plausible target in the pathogenesis of GO utilising in silico methods for protein and sequence analysis. This fibroblast-derived protein is known to have conserved leucine rich repeats (LRR) and is constitutively expressed in fibroblasts and tissues of mesenchymal origin, unlike TSHr. Furthermore, decorin expression in orbital fibroblasts (OF), the target tissue implicated in GO, has not been investigated yet.

Conclusion: For the first time, this study reports a structural similarity of decorin to TSHr-α sub-unit. Thereby, indicating a possible involvement in GO pathogenesis. In conclusion, the collated data reported herein, is suggestive of decorin as a new candidate underlying GO pathogenesis.
